Mary Eileen McDonnell (born April 28th 1952) is an American stage, film, and television actress. She was nominated for the Academy Award for her roles in Dances with Wolves as Stands With A Finger and Passion Fish as May-Alice Culhane. McDonnell is most well-known for her performances as First Lady Marilyn Whitmore in Independence Day and President Laura Roslin on Battlestar Galactica. In the seasons of 5-7 she appeared as Captain Sharon Raydor and in Major Crimes spin-offs on TNT.
